    CARI and AFRICA RICE Center Agreed to Collaborate

    The Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) in Suakoko, Bong County and Africa Rice have agreed to collaborate and put into place support mechanisms to strengthen the capacity of CARI and how direct support from Africa Rice Center could successfully reach the research institute through actual activities. This latest collaboration meeting was held in January 2017 between the two research institutions and the Ministry of Agriculture.

    Dr. Harold Roy-Macauley Director General, Africa Rice Center disclosed that his organization has been thinking how to strengthen collaboration with CARI to enable Liberia take ownership of its research activities and be able to reach those having direct impacts on the activities.

    For his part, the Director General of the Central Research Institute, Dr. Walter Wiles indicated the need to define a clearer role of Africa Rice Center involvement with CARI.  The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister for Administration Mrs. Seklau Wiles; Deputy Minister for Planning and Development Dr. Charles N. McClain; Deputy Minister for Research and Development Thomas Gbokie, Jr.  and Africa Rice Liberia Country Representative Dr. Inoussa Akintayo
