GoL, FAO, WFP and Partners Celebrate World Food Day on October 16 2016
10 October 2016, Monrovia- The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the United Nations specialized agencies of the Food and Agriculture Organization, World Food Programme (WFP) and partners will observe World Food Day on October 16, 2016.
This year World Food Day is being celebrated under the theme: “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too.” The celebration of this year’s World Food Day which runs from 16 October to 12 November 2016 will be divided into three stages including Press Conference, Stakeholders Forum, and Exhibition.
During the event, key stakeholders from the Government of Liberia, UN-agencies, Food Sector Partners as well as the Media and the general public will join the celebration of World Food Day in Liberia.
On October 16, 2016 in Monrovia, The FAO Country Representative Mr. Marc Abdala, Dr. Moses Zinnah Minister of Agriculture and WFP Country Director Mr. Sory Ibrahim Ouane will brief the press on the effect of climate change to food security and how farmers can adapt to the adverse effects of climate change and become more resilient, productive and sustainable.
The stakeholders’ forum will take place on the November 12, 2016 at the Paynesville Town Hall bringing together major stakeholders including the Government of Liberia, UN agencies, Farmers, Academicians and the general public to discuss issues related to agriculture and food production.
The last event which will be the exhibition will take place in Saclepea, Nimba County bringing together Food Crops, Cash Crops, Livestock, Fisheries and Agril-Input Suppliers.
The official celebration of World Food Day in Roma will be held on 14 October 2016 follow by a meeting of mayors from over 100 cities across the world. The majors will be committed to the “Milan Urban Food Policy Pact”, the first international protocol that calls for cities to develop sustainable food systems that grant healthy and accessible food to all, protect biodiversity and reduce food waste.
World Food Day is celebrated each year to promote awareness on agriculture, food security and for nations to take against malnutrition and hunger.
