Urban-Peri-Urban Mini-Farm project

Background of the Peri-Urban Farm Project:
The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Agriculture has identified food insecurity and malnutrition as a major problem for the long sustainability and success of Liberia.  Underpinning these assessments and findings lies the reality that malnutrition and food scarcity are among the key nutritional roadblocks to early childhood development, as well as active and healthy populations.

Key Objectives of the Project:
A.    Actively develop under-utilized land areas in urban regions for food production;
B.    Provide quick impact farming skills to urban dwellers; and
C.    Improve food security for urban populations.

The Ministry is searching for residents living in the Urban Areas of Monrovia, Kakata, Gbarnga, and Ganta to join this program that will help teach citizens how to grow crops and poultry in their backyard gardens.  Beneficiaries must however choose if they would prefer to Grow Crops or Raise Poultry, but they cannot benefit from both types of support at the same time.

List of Crops:
*Garden Vegetables
*Lettuce
*Hot pepper
*Plantain

… and several others

List of Poultry:
