President Weah Visits Ministry of Agriculture, Holds talks with Minister Flomo, Development Partners.

In realization of his pronounced commitment to fully support the agricultural sector of Liberia, President Dr. George M. Weah on Monday February 4, 2019, made his first official working visit to the Ministry of Agriculture in Gardnersville.

The Agriculture Mechanization meeting which was chaired by H.E. Dr. George M. Weah, brought together authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture, stakeholders, development  partners led by United Nations Country Resident Coordinator, Yacoub E. Hillo, heads of agriculture sector and agencies, Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel Tweah, Central Bank of Liberia Governor Nathaniel Patray amongst others.

In a brief comment at a roundtable discussion with partners and Agriculture Ministry officials, President Weah re-emphasized the connection between agriculture productions and economic boom on the one hand and poverty alleviation and national food security on the other.

He said the essence of his visit to the Ministry was to interact with partners to find appropriate mechanisms and identify strategies that would help remodel challenges faced by the sector.

President Weah thanked partners of the agriculture sector for standing with Liberia in its effort to strengthen the sector.

The discussions went well with full commitments from all sides to work together for a Liberia that is self-sufficient in food production to the extent that it has an ability to export food to other countries.

In a brief chat with reporters after the closed-door discussion with stakeholders of the sector, President Weah said that the conversations were about finding ways and means through which they could work together to improve the sector so that Liberia becomes self-sufficient in food production.

The Liberian Leader said now is the time for Government and partners to work together in finding new strategies to improve the sector, emphasizing the need to put together a technical team that would work from time to time on issues and programs toward achieving productive results.

At the end of the one day consultative and working section on Agriculture Mechanization in Liberia, Agriculture Minister Dr. Mogana S. Flomo Jr, also informed the press that the sector requires over five millions United States Dollars for the actualization of this historic dream. Dr. Flomo assured Liberians that the practical and chronological implementations of this plan will lead to the solution of the age old food security situation in Liberia.
