President Boakai Launches National Agriculture Fair, Calls on Liberians to Take Ownership of Agriculture at NAF 2025

[Ganta, Nimba County — December 12, 2025: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called on Liberians across the country to take ownership of agriculture as the foundation of food security, economic independence, and national transformation.

Speaking at the official opening of the National Agriculture Fair (NAF 2025) in Ganta, Nimba County, the President urged farmers, cooperatives, women, youth, the private sector, and development partners to unite behind agriculture as a shared national responsibility.

“No nation can truly stand while depending on others to feed it,” President Boakai said. “Liberia must believe in itself, invest in itself, and build its future with its own hands. A food-secure Liberia is a proud Liberia.”

Citing a recent World Bank report, President Boakai noted that agriculture is increasingly contributing to national economic growth, with improved performance in key value chains such as rice and rubber.

“This progress reflects the resilience of our farmers and the impact of focused investments in agriculture,” he said.

President Boakai emphasized that agriculture must move beyond subsistence to become a driver of prosperity. He highlighted mechanization, value-chain development, and improved market access as critical tools for boosting productivity and building indigenous Liberian wealth that can improve livelihoods and strengthen communities nationwide.

“When our farmers earn more, communities grow stronger,” he said. “That is how we build better houses, better health facilities, and better schools for our children. This is why we are bringing in the yellow machines.”

President Boakai also encouraged young Liberians to view agriculture as a modern, technology-driven business sector with opportunities in processing, logistics, innovation, and value addition.

For his part, Minister of Agriculture Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah paid tribute to farmers across the country, describing them as the backbone of the Liberian economy, and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to revitalizing the agricultural sector through innovation, partnerships, and capacity building.

“Farmers, it is because of you that we gather here today,” he said. “Every value-added product you see at this fair begins in your fields. We salute you for your dedication and resilience.”

Minister Nuetah urged stakeholders to seize the opportunity presented by the fair to engage, collaborate, and invest in Liberia’s agricultural sector.

“Engage with our farmers, purchase their produce, and let them return home empowered because you came,” the Minister added.

The National Agriculture Fair 2025 brings together farmers, cooperatives, policymakers, private sector actors, and development partners from across the country to promote food security, rural development, and agriculture-led economic growth.

The fair will feature exhibitions and demonstrations and will conclude with the presentation of prestigious awards to outstanding farmers across several categories, aimed at strengthening Liberia’s food systems and celebrating excellence in agriculture.
