New 9 Million Dollars Project Launched to address Rice & Cassava Value Chain
NEW 9 MILLION DOLLARS PROJECT LAUNCHED TO ADDRESS RICE & CASSAVA VALUE CHAIN
With funding from the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) through the African Development Bank, the Ministry of Agriculture has launched a new project to address critical deficits in Liberia's two main consumed food crops - rice and cassava in six counties.
Unlike existing donor-funded projects executed by the ministry through consultants hired outside of the MOA, this Smallholder Agriculture Development for Food and Nutrition Security (SADFONS) project is entirely operated by technicians within the ministry.
It will be operational in six of Liberia's 15 counties with high potentials for rice and cassava.
Liberia's Vice President, Chief Jewel Howard Taylor launched the project on Monday with showering praises of Liberia's Agriculture Minister Jeanine M. Cooper for the transformational progress seen in the country's food and agriculture sector.
